March 4

Awake
Young millionaire Clay Beresford (Hayden Christensen) has gone under the knife for a heart transplant. However, as Clay feels each slice of the scalpel and is completely aware of his surroundings in the operating room, he realizes he is experiencing anesthetic awareness - a condition that leaves the patient conscious yet paralyzed. During an out-of-body experience, Clay also discovers a murder plot with him as the target.

Into the Wild
Sean Penn steps behind the camera to helm this poignant portrait of Christopher Candless (Emile Hirsch), an Emory graduate who donates his savings to charity, leaves his material possessions behind and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
Step inside Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the most fantastically magical toy store a kid could wish for. When Mr. Edward Magorium (Dustin Hoffman), the quirky 243-year-old owner, decides to bequeath the shop to his shy manager Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman), the store begins to exhibit some odd behavior.

My Kid Could Paint That
Amir Bar-Lev's documentary follows Marla Olmstead, a four-year-old painting prodigy whose works of art have been compared to the likes of Picasso and Pollock. Critics and skeptics, however, have called into question whether Marla's canvas creations are completely original or were painted with the aid of her parents. (see MPM's movie review)

Radiant City
Filmmaker Gary Burns teams up with journalist Jim Brown to create this genre-bending film about suburban sprawl. Just truthful enough to be a documentary yet containing elements of a mocumentary, Radiant City focuses on the fictional Moss family who is dealing with the very real issue of suburban sprawl - the spreading of a suburban area to the fringes of an urban region.

Things We Lost in the Fire
Recently widowed Audrey Burke (Halle Berry) asks her deceased husband's friend Jerry Sunborne (Benicio Del Toro) to come live with her and her two children, not only as a means of coping, but also to get Jerry's life away from drugs and back on track.

March 11

August Rush
Robin Williams, Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyer star in this moving musical drama about August Rush (Freddie Highmore), offspring of two musically gifted parents, who was given up for adoption. With the help of a kindly stranger, August travels across New York in search of his long-lost parents. (see MPM's movie review)

Bee Movie
Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger and Chris Rock lend their voices to DreamWorks's animated comedy that's all the buzz. When recent college bumblebee grad Barry B. Benson discovers humans eat the honey his kind so painstakingly produces, he decides to sue.

Dan in Real Life
The life of advice columnist Dan Burns (Steve Carell) is ironically a mess. A recent widower, Dan has dedicated his life to raising his three daughters the best way a single father can. A chance encounter with a charming woman at a bookstore complicates Dan's life, however, when he realizes the bookstore beauty he's fallen for is his brother's new girlfriend.

Dans Paris
Paul has just been dumped. Heartbroken and suicidal, he moves in with his divorced father and ladies' man of a younger brother, Jonathan. When the closest men in his life fail to lift his downtrodden disposition, a visit from his aloof mother and the possibility of a new romance seem to be the only cure for his long-lasting lethargy.

Hitman
Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard, The Girl Next Door) shaves his scalp, lock and loads two handguns and dons a tailored suit to portray the quintessential antihero, Agent 47, from the popular video game Hitman.

Lake of Fire
Tony Kaye's raw documentary explores both sides of the very controversial subject of abortion. (see MPM's movie review)

Nancy Drew
When it comes to solving mysteries, Nancy Drew is the one to call, which is exactly what happens when the case of a murdered actress comes up. Nancy (Emma Roberts) learns quickly, however, that crime savvy and detective skills are not the ticket to popularity as she attempts to blend in with her peers despite her retro mentality and attire. (see MPM's article "From Bedtime to the Big Screen" for interview with Emma Roberts)

No Country for Old Men
Hunter and rural welder Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) has just stumbled upon the remains of a drug deal gone horribly wrong: a crashed truck, a stash of heroin and two million dollars. Instead of reporting his findings to police, Moss decides to keep the cash, inadvertently setting the psychopathic killer Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) on his tail. 2007 Oscar "Best Picture."

Outlaw
Feeling betrayed by their British government, a band of average people forms an outlaw posse to right the wrongs that have befallen them.

Sleuth
Screenwriter Harold Pinter and director Kenneth Branagh collaborate to create this sleek and clever thriller. Struggling actor Milo Tindle (Jude Law) travels to Andrew Wyke's (Michael Caine) expansive estate in order to get him to sign divorce papers that will allow Milo to be with Andrew's ex-wife. Milo doesn't anticipate, however, Andrew's unwillingness to let go as he teases him with mind games.

March 18

Atonement
Adapted from Ian McEwan novel, Atonement tells the moving story of two unlikely lovers who are separated from each other by World War I and a simple misunderstanding that changes the course of their lives forever. (see MPM's video interview with screenwriter Christopher Hampton)

Enchanted
The animated world collides with modern-day New York in Disney's Enchanted. When Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) stumbles out of her cartoon realm and into the real world, she meets the handsome lawyer Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsy) who changes her views of life and love.

I Am Legend
When a devastating plague wipes out the majority of humans, mutating the rest into grotesque monsters, it's up a sole survivor in New York City named Robert Neville (Will Smith) to stay alive and find a cure.

Love in the Time of Cholera
Based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera tells the sweeping story of a love triangle between a woman and her two suitors that spans 50 years.

The Sasquatch Gang
When sci-fi aficionado Gavin Gore (Justin Long) and his friends discover a set of huge footprints in the woods, their expert logic comes to only one conclusion: Big Foot is near. Their discovery causes a quite a stir in their small town and also raises some speculation in the neighborhood bully, who tries to discredit the group of friends.

The Seeker: The Dark is Rising
Will Stanton (Alexander Ludwig) has just discovered that he is the last of a band of warriors who have spent years fighting the wicked force of the Dark. Now, Will must accept his fate and protect the world from the ultimate evil.

Southland Tales
With an ensemble cast including Jon Lovitz, Justin Timberlake, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Seann William Scott, Southland Tales is a sci-fi musical thriller set in Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it is on the brink of social, economic and environmental ruin.

Steep
Mark Obenhaus's documentary traces the history of extreme snow skiing from its origins to modern day.

Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains
Jonathan Demme's documentary follows the former president on his recent and controversial tour promoting his book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.

The Kite Runner
Based on the best-selling book by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner tells the moving tale of family and love amidst wartime in the Middle East, focusing on the friendship between two young boys.

Shrooms
When a group of young American backpackers trek to Ireland in search of magical shrooms, they don't count on being stalked and hunted by a serial killer on the loose.

Stephen King's The Mist
Director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) brings Stephen King's 1980 horror novella to life in this modern adaption. When a mysterious, thick fog descends upon a small Maine town, a band of citizen must fight the vicious creatures lurking behind the mist.

Wristcutters: A Love Story
Wristcutters takes a darkly comedic look at the afterlife for those who have committed suicide. After breaking up with his girlfriend, Zia (Patrick Fugit) decides to off himself, winding up in a purgatory that's much like his previous life. When he learns that his girlfriend has killed herself, too, Zia and his Russian-rocker friend Mikal (Shannyn Sossaman) set out on a road trip to find her.
