January 2008 DVD Releases

Moving Pictures is pleased to offer the DVD release dates for January 2008. It's a new year with new roles for some of Hollywood's favorites. Clive Owen is a carrot-loving loner in Shoot ‘Em Up, Kevin Bacon is a one-man vigilante in Death Sentence, while Michael Douglas is a slightly deranged father convinced there's Spanish gold beneath a supermarket in King of California. Don't forget to check out exclusive MPM extras for some of these films.

January 1

Resident Evil: Extinction
Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Alice, the Umbrella Corporation's ultimate bio-organic weapon, in the third installment of the Resident Evil series. Survivors of the Raccoon City viral infection trek their way across Nevada's deserts and fight to stay alive against the mutated hoards of the infected.

Shoot 'Em Up
Clive Owen stars as Mr. Smith, a carrot-loving lone wolf who happens upon a pregnant woman and helps deliver her baby. Smith must now protect the newborn from the ruthless contract killer Mr. Hertz (Paul Giamatti) with the help of a lactating prostitute (Monica Bellucci).

War
Jet Li and Jason Statham face off in Philip G. Atwell's heart-pumping action film War. When the notorious assassin Rogue (Li) exacts his revenge on FBI agent Tom Lone (Terry Chen) for shooting him in the face three years ago, Lone's partner, Jack Crawford (Statham), is on the payback path toward Rogue to avenge the death of his friend.

January 2

September Dawn
Director Christopher Cain uses the 1857 Utah tragedy the Mountain Meadows Massacre as a backdrop to his fictional story about two young lovers on opposing sides of the conflict who must find a way to be together despite the ubiquitous animosity.

January 8

3:10 to Yuma
Russell Crowe and Christian Bale star in James Mangold's remake of the classic 1957 western about a small-time ranch hand, Dan Evans (Bale), who agrees to escort the outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) to his court date in Yuma. Wade gets more than he bargained for, however, as the journey is filled with ambushes from Indians and Wade's vengeful crew.

Death Sentence
Kevin Bacon stars in James Wan's adaptation of Brian Garfield's novel of the same name. Nick Hume's (Bacon) perfect life comes to a shattering halt when he witnesses the murder of his son. When the killer gets off due to a technicality, Hume takes matters into his own hands and becomes a one-man vigilante bent on avenging the death of his son.

Eagle vs Shark
Two socially awkward eccentrics find love in the most random settings and situations.

Nuovomondo (Golden Door)
At the beginning of the 20th century, Salvatore Mancuso (Vincenzo Amata), an Italian immigrant on his way to Ellis Island, agrees to marry an attractive British woman who is, at first, interested in the arrangement only for ulterior purposes. Once in America, Salvatore and his family face a series of grueling admittance tests, and his prospects of becoming a citizen and married life hang in the balance.

The Invasion
An alien epidemic is sweeping the nation, turning everyone into mindless shells of their former selves. Now, Washington psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) and her colleague, Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig), must figure out the mystery behind the invasion.

Joshua
An affluent Manhattan family is torn apart by the increasingly disturbing behavior of their son, Joshua, when a new baby sister enters the picture.

Klimt
John Malkovich stars as the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, whose sexually charged paintings led to an artistic revolution in the late 19th century.

Smiley Face
After accidentally consuming her roommate's "special" cupcakes laced with pot, Jane (Anna Faris) attempts to go about her day, encountering one misadventure after another.

Sunshine
Cillian Murphy and director Tom Boyle (28 Days Later) re-unite for the suspenseful sci-fi thriller Sunshine. The sun is dying, thrusting the earth into darkness with an ever-dropping temperature. A team of astronauts is sent on a perilous mission to re-ignite the sun and save the planet from imminent doom.

January 15

Good Luck Chuck
Women can't get enough of Charlie Logan (Dane Cook). Rumor has it that when a single woman sleeps with him, she winds up finding the man of her dreams. All this seems to benefit everyone until Charlie falls for the cute and clumsy Cam (Jessica Alba). Now, he has to abstain from sleeping with her lest she fall for someone else.

Mr. Woodcock
John Farley (Seann William Scott) is thrown the ultimate curveball when he learns his former gym-teacher-from-Hell (Billy Bob Thornton) is marrying his mother (Susan Sarandon).

The Ten
Jessica Alba, Adam Brody, Famke Janssen, Winona Ryder and Paul Rudd are just a few of the stars in director David Wain's compilation of 10 hilarious vignettes, each pertaining to one of the Ten Commandments.

Suburban Girl
Based on two short stories from "The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing" by Melissa Banks, Suburban Girl stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Brett Eisenberg, a New York editor on her way to top who battles the politics of her office and sheds her small-time boyfriend for the older, yet charming, publishing playboy Archie Knox (Alec Baldwin).

January 22

The Game Plan
Joe Kingman (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) has the ideal athlete's lifestyle: money, women and the ultimate bachelor's pad. Joe's life is turned upside-down, however, when his eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship shows up at his door. Now, he must juggle newfound fatherhood with his football career.

Sydney White
Amanda Bynes stars in this modern retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves that uses a college campus setting as the magical kingdom, seven dorks instead of dwarves, a popular sorority president (Sara Paxton) as the evil queen bee and Matt Long as Prince Charming.

Saw IV
Director Darren Lynn Bousman returns with the fourth installment of the Saw series with all the familiar blood, guts and sadistic situations with which the franchise has become synonymous. Although mastermind Jigsaw is dead, his dirty work is still being carried out by his followers, leaving a whole new set of victims in the clutches of the deadly game.

Adrift in Manhattan
The lives of three strangers intertwine on the New York subway as they learn more about each other and find the strength to move on from their personal problems.

Blonde Ambition
Inspired by the 1988 Academy Award-nominated film Working Girl, Blonde Ambition tells the story of Katie (Jessica Simpson), a small-town girl who attempts to make it in the Big Apple but must resist two big-time business men who want to use her to reach their mega-conglomerate goal.

The Hunting Party
Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Jesse Eisenberg and Diane Kruger star in this gripping drama about two journalists and a cameraman who travel to Bosnia to find the No. 1 war criminal, The Fox. Danger ensues, however, when the three are confused for a CIA hit squad.

Sex and Breakfast
James and Heather (Macaulay Culkin and Alexis Dziena) and Ellis and Renee (Kuno Becker and Eliza Dushku) are two young couples who begin to experiment with anonymous group sex to recharge their romantic lives. Through their encounters, the couples realize there is more to life than just sex and breakfast.

January 29

Bordertown
Gregory Nava's film tells the true story of an American journalist, Lauren Adrian (Jennifer Lopez), who is sent to Ciudad Juárez to investigate the brutal murders of several women in the area.

The Comebacks
Following in the tradition of movie parodies such as Not Another Teen Movie, Scary Movie and Epic Movie, The Comebacks tackles popular sports films, including Bend It Like Beckham, Friday Night Lights and We Are Marshall with the all-too-familiar plotline of a down-and-out coach who must pull together his rag-tag team of underdogs and charge to victory.

Trade
Based on Peter Landesman's The New York Times article "The Girls Next Door," Trade tells the harrowing story of a 13-year-old girl who is kidnapped by sex traffickers and forced into an illegal sex ring. It's up to her brother (Cesar Ramos) to find and rescue her.

Daddy Day Camp
Sequel to 2003's Daddy Day Care, Cuba Gooding Jr. replaces Eddie Murphy as Charlie Hinton, the lovable dad who started out with a day care and now has plans to extend the popular business into a day camp.

Feel the Noise
Aspiring rapper Rob (Omarion Grandberry) escapes to South America after a run-in with a gang of thugs in his hometown of Harlem. While in Puerto Rico, Rob not only discovers the father and brother he never knew, but the music and dance scene of Reggaeton, a mix of Latin flavor, hip-hop beats and reggae.

King of California
Mike Cahill makes his directorial debut with this humorous story of Charlie (Michael Douglas), a newly emancipated insane-asylum patient who tries to convince his daughter Miranda (Evan Rachel Wood) that there is an ancient Spanish treasure buried beneath their local Costco.

King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
Seth Gordon's documentary follows video-game underdog Steven Wiebe as he attempts to unseat Billy Mitchell, the reigning arcade champ of Donkey Kong.

The Nines
The Nines is comprised of three short films, "The Prisoner," "Reality Television" and "Knowing," starring the same actors but involved in different, yet sometimes overlapping, storylines. "The Prisoner" is about an actor under house arrest who finds himself in an interesting living situation when he moves in with someone else because he burned down his own house. "Reality Television" follows a television writer who is trying to launch his pilot. "Knowing" is about a videogame designer and his wife whose car breaks down in the woods.

Rocket Science
Fifteen-year-old Hal Hefner gains confidence and finds love through his high school's debate team despite a turbulent home situation and a stuttering problem.
